10-10-10 Anno Domini, Overture - Drama, relaxation, humour and more in 12 tracks

Anno Domini are pleased to announce their new album Overture, mixing the bands dance roots with chill out tracks and their normal sense of humour. As you would expect from Anno Domini, the title track, instead of being at the start of the album, is at the end (baring the bonus tracks added to the release). Of course an Overture is by definition a piece of music that is an overview - but since when have Anno Domini done things by the book? The title track itself, is a dramatic, slow building piece, revolving around the same 4 note refrain, but building from simple beginnings to an epic climax. Conflict starts this album, inspired by the Second World War, and with the immortal words of Sir Winston Churchill ringing throughout the piece, this is a modern take on a military march. The second track is The Chase, and as the name suggests, the band wrote this with a chase scene in mind. The track emerges the listener in a panic and pressure situation, keeping you on the edge of your seat, before leaving you behind. Third is Planet Cinema which is also revisited on the final track on this album as the radio edit. A saw shaped synth lead cuts through the dance inspired backing, as this track captures the glitz of Hollywood, but nods towards the 21st century. A film theme perhaps; certainly a fast paced track and which has been earmarked as a future single release. The next three tracks are Event Horizon, One Day Away and Standing Alone Together, Here Anno Domini show their chill out talents and take the listener on a relaxing journey. Event Horizon will take you away from day to day life; let it lift you to another place where the madness of today’s high pressure lifestyle is just not a worry. One Day Away represents travel – no matter how far you try to get away, how far from home you might be, there is no-where on this planet that Mankind can be that is more than one day from home. Standing Alone Together is utilised as a feature track; with an unexpected chord progression and a familiar yet vexing or haunting melody, this piece is designed to offer up the image of a hero, fighting the odds, yet being comforted by a sole mate - perhaps a metaphor for the band themselves? Emergence suggests heralding in a new era, perhaps the entrance of a new threat. Next is actually two pieces merged into one; Speedbird is a tribute to Concorde, the supersonic aircraft that is greatly missed. The track starts in inspirational mood, capturing the early design and majesty of this Anglo-French project, building to the climax of its service in the 1970s/80s/90s. As the track backs down in its mid-section, the mood is much darker, representing the time when Concorde was out of service, the humdrum airport terminal is summoned up to represent the lack of glamour. Then, as part 2 begins, the piece livens up, it thrives as Anno Domini take samples from Concorde’s last flight to its birthplace of Filton, UK. The drama of a high speed flight, supersonic travel wrapped up in a fast paced beat, punctured with text from the pilot and ground crew; until finally, she lands and supersonic passenger flight is no more. Shipwreck, a bonus track on this album and originally recorded in 1998 is a self-explanatory piece and is dedicated to soles lost at sea. TV Media was written in the age of 24 hour news channels and never ending coverage of our lives; this piece is a light hearted look at reporting of the news on television, the challenges of pulling it together, and ultimately the way the news is put to us as viewers. Ultimately Overture is an album of emotions; it takes you from the dramatic, to the relaxing and back again. Anno Domini are only too happy to be your guide on that journey. Track Listing 1.
