Entwine - new solo album by Iva Bittová after 20 years!
Entwine is my second recording to be made at Zelená Hora at the Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first was 1997’s 44 Duets For Two Violins which re-examined Béla Bartók’s suite. The church’s astounding acoustics and its architecture’s recurrent deployment of fives in its symbols, layout and proportions inspired me. Legend even has it that after the death of its architect, Jan Santini Aichel in 1723 Nepomuk’s five stars shone above his body. The dominant symbolism of fives is gently reflected in five musical improvisations inspired by the location’s space, history and heritage. I road-tested and refined Entwine’s other seven compositions around the world during solo concerts. Dedicated to Václav Havel. Iva Bittová
