The Ghazal has captured the hearts of thousands of people over the years with it's tales of love, love unrequited and loneliness through a sequence of poems. The attraction of this beautiful art is easy to see. Which one of us can say that we have never felt the emotions conveyed in a ghazal...My heart and soul whispers to me and tells me that my journey with ghazal began long before I was born. My first memory of ghazal goes back almost thirty-eight years ago. My beloved father, Akhtar Azad was and still is an avid fan of the Ghazal genre. Being a qawwal and poet, he kept the cherished company of eminent poets and singers during my most impressionable years. I was immensely enchanted with the company of such artistes and loved them, not because of their social status, but because they were family friends who showered me with their love and grace. My absolute favourite was Shri Jagjit Singh Ji, known to me fondly as Jagjit uncle. It was under the tutelage of Jagjit uncle that I was exposed to the real essence of ghazal singing. In the company of such enormous talent, it was only natural that I too became enthralled and enchanted with the delicacy and beauty of the Ghazal. I can feel the Ghazal seeping through every vein in my being, it is in my blood and I firmly believe that I was born to sing ghazal.This album is the first milestone of my journey so far, a journey which has been hard, beautiful and melodious. It has been filled with some of the most amazing memories which have at times taken my breath away and will always remain very close to my heart. These are moments I will treasure forever.Please enjoy my first album with me. It has been made with great love for you all. Although the journey ahead is very long, my wish is that you will all accompany me every step of the way. Without the blessings of my fans, I am nothing!
